On December 30, 2018 New York Times readers received their morning briefing and it read “Shutdown, McKinsey, Gaza.” It was an end of the year surprise for many readers who are not used to seeing Gaza in the top headlines of the New York Times. Yet the content of the report was more surprising. In its Times Insider's report "How Times Reporters Froze a Fatal Moment on a Protest Field in Gaza", NYT provided a thorough investigation of the shooting of Palestinian medic Rouzan al-Najjar who was killed by Israeli military fire near the Gaza-Israel fence on June 1, 2018. The investigation concluded that Rouzan’s shooting “appears to have been reckless at best, and possibly a war crime, for which no one has yet been punished.”
